2010 was a great year for gamers. With games like Red Dead Redemption and God Of War 3, there was no shortage of single player adventures. Call Of Duty: Black Ops and Halo: Reach will keep servers busy for years to come as well. But now, it’s time we looked on to 2011, and all the promises it brings. There are a lot of excellent looking games on the horizon, but these 5 peak my interest the most. Let’s start off with:
In what was considered the side game in The Orange Box has now become one of the most sought after franchises in the industry. The original Portal was one of those games that made you feel gratifying. Solving the puzzles made you feel like you really achieved something, and very few games give you that sense of accomplishment. Portal 2 allows you and a friend to solve these mind bending puzzles and add the same sense of humor and this game already looks to be a winner.
The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Even though it had a questionable debut at E3, Skyward Sword makes the list because simply it’s a new Zelda game and they tend to be Game Of The Year nominees every time their released. Since Twilight Princess was a Gamecube port, this is really the first (and probably only) Zelda game built specifically for the Wii. We are all looking forward to seeing more from this title at this January’s Nintendo World event, so we can hopefully bring you more news on this title.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds
The fighting game that the world is waiting for is almost here. I was one of the people who thought that this game would never see the light of day, but Capcom answered the prayers of gamers around the world when it debuted it mega hit last April. With new characters being introduced on a monthly basis, the possibility of DLC characters, and a way that Capcom can keep the game balanced, MvC3 could be a game we’ll be playing for the next decade. MvC 2 is still one of the most played games in tournaments to this day so the possibility is there.
Gears Of War 3
While I love my Halo and my Call Of Duty, Gears Of War remains my shooter of choice. The final chapter in the trilogy has humanity on the brink of extinction, with Marcus and the rest of Delta squad fighting for their lives. But this time, you get to bring 3 of your friends to the battle with 4-player co-op gameplay. Bring back the addictive Horde mode, the brand new Beast mode, and some of the best multiplayer this side of 360 and you have a potential Game Of The Year candidate. We’ll be playing the multiplayer beta, so check in with us for more updates.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Many games are fun to play, but few are fun to watch as well. The Uncharted games are like playable movies, with huge action set pieces, incredible voice acting, fun multiplayer and smooth gameplay, it’s hard to argue with what Uncharted brings to the Playstation 3. We all know that Uncharted 3 will be epic, but after Uncharted 2, expectations are sky high. Will this game top its perfect predecessor? 11/1/2011 is a date we all will mark on our calendar.
Honorable Mentions: Mortal Kombat, BulletStorm, Assassin’s Creed III, Metal Gear Solid Rising, Twisted Metal, Rage, Bioshock Infinite, Batman: Arkham City, L.A. Noire, Resistance 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Crysis 2
